5 things we learned about Chelsea recently
- Conte has limited authority when it comes to buy/sell decisions. Nothing new here, just further confirmation of what we already know.
- If he had full decision making authority, Diego Costa would have been out on his ear months ago. The Brazilian prima donna’s legal threats, refusal to return to the club and general belligerence were a blight that Conte will be delighted to have finally got rid of him. This has likely been a source of serious friction between Conte and Abramovich with the latter possibley blaming Conte for the way he handled Mr. Grumpy at the end of the last season (remember that text that Costa went public with telling him he is not part of the club’s future) for precipitating this prolonged toy chucking strop…
- And if Conte was making his own decisions, then probably Albert Morata would not have been bought – Morata was not Conte’s first choice for striker. Still, can't blame the manager for claiming he wanted him all along, considering the performances,
- And while we’re about it, did Conte really want to sell Matic? One of his first choice players and a consistent tower of strength throughout last season, his superior performances for United so far this season will make for particularly painful viewing for the Chelsea manager, if indeed he had not wanted to sell him.

Conte and Abramovich are not seeing eye to eye. A poor run (unlikely though that looks at the moment) could see them part ways.
